Porto is a city best understood slowly, street by street. This guided walking tour takes you through the heart of the historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with a local guide who brings its history, architecture and everyday life to life.
We start at the Avenida dos Aliados and the City Hall, then step into São Bento Station to see its famous blue-and-white azulejo panels telling the story of Portugal. From there we climb to the Sé Cathedral and its terrace, with wide views over the old town and the Douro River, before descending through narrow medieval streets to the Ribeira waterfront.
Along the way you will see the Church of São Francisco, the Palácio da Bolsa, the Clérigos Church and Tower, the Livraria Lello area, Rua das Flores and the Carmo Church with its tiled façade. We finish with views of the Dom Luís I Bridge and the port wine cellars across the river in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Your guide will share local tips on where to eat, taste port wine and find the best viewpoints, so you can continue exploring on your own afterwards. The route is adapted to your group, the pace and the weather. Please wear comfortable shoes: Porto is a city of hills and cobblestones.
